ECCE Scheme

Free Pre-school Education In Ireland

The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Scheme is a Government funded initiative that
provides 2 FREE years of pre-school to every child in Ireland between the ages of 3 – 5 years.
In general, children are eligible for the ECCE scheme if they are aged over 3 years 2 months
and up to 5 years 8 months, on the 1st of September of the year that they will be starting.
It’s an initiative that your child can avail of in most Park Academy Childcare creches and
we are proud to be part of it.

In 2015, the Irish Government extended the scheme so that children can now avail of two years
of free pre-school. Previous to this the ECCE funding covered just one pre-school year. A child who
has been assessed as having a disability may be able to spread their free pre-school year over
2 years.

The normal pattern for the free pre-school year is 3 hours per day, 5 days a week over 38 weeks.
If your child attends for longer than this each day, you will be charged for the extra time.
Applying for ECCE funding is easy – you will simply need to provide your child’s PPS number.
However spaces are limited so booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment.
